Business Development Manager – Specialist Plant Associates
Location: Wellingborough, Northants, NN29 7JQ - mostly in the office unless visiting clients
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with a proven background in plant supply services for the civil engineering sector, specifically within the realm of commercial fans and tunnelling equipment. Your role is to spearhead sales growth, develop strategic partnerships, and solidify our company's market presence within the UK. Your responsibilities will be to spot and capitalise on new business opportunities, build and foster customer relationships, and hit sales targets within the industrial tunnelling and heavy civil engineering equipment sectors.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Business Development:
- Drive the acquisition of new business, focusing exclusively on the tunnelling industry and heavy civil engineering equipment sector.
- Craft and implement strategies to break into new markets and broaden our client portfolio.
- Stay abreast of industry movements, competitive climate, and client necessities through dedicated market research.
- Engage in proactive business opportunity scouting via networking, cold outreach, and participation in industry-specific events.
- Maintain a vigorous sales pipeline, ensuring persistent tracking and follow-up actions.
Customer Relationship Management:
- Develop solid connections with key players, influencers, and stakeholders in client organisations.
- Deliver tailored solutions that meet the intricate needs of customers in the civil engineering plant supply niche.
- Perform product demonstrations and articulate the value proposition to potential clients.
- Responsively address client queries and concerns, always aiming for excellence in service.
Sales and Revenue Generation:
- Execute sales strategies to achieve or surpass rental revenue goals.
- Generate and present comprehensive sales proposals, contracts, and quotes that showcase our value engineering solutions.
- Handle contract negotiations with a balance of profitability and client contentment.
Market Intelligence and Competitive Analysis:
- Closely monitor competitor actions and sector advancements to identify both risks and opportunities.
- Perform ongoing market analyses to pinpoint trends, customer needs, and competitive pricing dynamics.
- Provide strategic insights to leadership for product development, pricing, and promotional efforts.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Partner with the marketing, operations, and finance teams to ensure project delivery is flawless and equipment is supplied on schedule.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Direct experience in plant supply services for civil engineering is mandatory.
- A robust track record in business development, sales, or account management, specifically within the plant supply sector for civil engineering or construction.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
- Strong relationship-building skills with a customer-oriented approach.
- Demonstrated success in achieving sales objectives.
- Analytical prowess to evaluate market conditions and pinpoint business prospects.
- Self-starter with the capability to work autonomously and as an integral part of a team.
- Proficiency in CRM systems and the Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
Applicants without direct experience in business development or sales for a plant supply services company specializing in civil engineering equipment will not be considered, as industry-specific knowledge and experience are crucial for success in this role.
