Tunnelling Project Manager

LOCATION –  Central England and  The North

We are currently recruiting for Project Managers to join our tunnelling projects in the North of England. 

As a Project Manager you will be responsible for the management of the construction site in order to achieve required project delivery to the customers’ objectives, while maintaining high standards of health and safety, quality, environmental impact and cost control. You will deliver projects, to the specified quality, the required programme and to the maximum commercial performance. Working closely with the estimating department, engineers and surveyors to ensure that projects are completed in a safe manner whilst customer requirements and expectations are always maintained or exceeded.

Project Manager Job responsibilities include: 

  • Ensure the site is managed in a safe and efficient manner that reflects the high standards that Joseph Gallagher Ltd are renowned for.
  • Ensure the commercial performance of the contract is maximised
  • Produce procurement schedules and liaise with the procurement department to ensure the project has adequate resources to complete the tasks
  • Produce and maintain projects forecasts and manage the scope and contract meticulously
  • Report on risks and opportunities to the senior management team.
  • Deliver the work to the specified quality without defects. Ensure production and implementation of Project Plans, RAMS, ITP’s and waste management plans in line with Company procedures
  • Ensure detailed site diaries/records are completed. 
  • Maintain commercial tension to drive out cost and challenge the status quo.

To be successful in this position the Project Manager must have the following:

  • A minimum of 2 yrs experience managing Tunnelling/SCL projects in UK
  • Be proficient in NEC3 Option A & C and change management 
  • Have experience of managing Heavy Civils or Tunnelling projects within highly regulated environments
  • Have experience in Design Management, Programme & Risk Management and production of CVRs, including cost control, forecasting and value assessment
  • A degree/HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
  • Ability to challenge designs and resolve problems to conclusion 
  • Ability to manage and deliver a successful project with minimal guidance  


  • A masters degree in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status 
  • Competency with Primavera P6 software  
  • CSCS managers card SMSTS
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate
